THE BEROOMS

MAIN VILLA (Bawana) – 4 bedrooms: Can sleep up to 8 guests. Each suite: 80 sq.m. (bedrooms – 40 sq.m.)

Eraeliya Villa Bawana Suites

A 4-bedroom house with 2 suites on the top floor and 2 suites on the ground floor. All rooms are ensuite, have WiFi, A/C, ocean views and a private terrace.

The main villa is the owner’s vision of the perfect beach home on the ocean. Every element was thought out with love and attention to the peculiarities of the local climate: from the hugely deep pool to the vaulted nine-meter ceilings. Vintage Portuguese tiles, teak and mahogany wood, antique furniture and massive doors give the villa a genuine colonial feeling. There are 4 bedrooms – 2 on the ground floor and 2 upstairs.

  • Ramaya Suite, Villa Bawana – Can sleep up to 2 Guests.

Ramaya Suite is located on the first floor of the main Villa Bawana. If you love colonial chic, luxury and splendor, you will get great pleasure from our unique Suite Ramaya – which means “paradise” in Sinhalese. Spoil yourself in the magnificent marble bath made out of one solid rock and enjoy the huge canopy bed.

  • Samaya Suite, Villa Bawana – Can sleep up to 2 Guests

Samaya Suite is our other room located on the first floor of Villa Bawana. Just like at the Ramaya Suite, a marble bathtub and a walk-in shower are waiting for you. French windows to the front of the suite open onto a private furnished balcony and offer a breathtaking view over the ocean. Samaya means “peace” in Sinhalese and you will find your inner peace waking up in the beautiful and comfy four-poster bed.

  • Alaya Suite, Villa Bawana – Can sleep up to 2 Guests

If the Pan-Asian modern tropical style is what you are looking for then we recommend staying in Alaya Suite, which means “love” in Sinhalese. The room is just a few steps away from the infinity pool. All the furniture is incredibly comfy and was made by hand in workshops in Sri Lanka. Be surprised by the immense rain shower and handcrafted details in every corner.

  • Diviya Suite, Villa Bawana – Can sleep up to 2 Guests

Same as the neighbouring room Alaya, Diviya Suite also follows the design principles of modern tropical styles. Diviya means “heaven” in Sinhalese and you will know why we called it like that when you wake up in your comfy bed to the sound of the waves. All details in the room are handcrafted and carefully picked.

THE GARDEN HOUSE – 1 bedroom. 61 sq.m. (bedroom – 25 sq.m.) – Can sleep up to 3 Guests

The luxurious Garden House Nelum has a special surprise for you: a huge bathtub made of a single piece of marble right in the bedroom. The rest of the space is divided into a cozy living room with a dining table and a chill-out area with TV and a soft sofa that can easily be transformed into a bed.

Behind the main villa stands the garden house with a double bedroom and adjoining sitting room. The path leading to the house is framed by two bamboo palms, and winds through the inner garden to the house. It creates a special feeling, the expectation of a miracle. The entrance portal brings the outdoor space into the interior. The portal is supported by two columns, built from carved mahogany wood and granite. Stone steps, leading up to an artificial pond with goldfish, deliver you to the entrance.

THE PAVILION – 1 bedroom – 57 sq.m. Can sleep between up to 2 guests

Ambalama Pavilion

On the other side of the main entrance sits the Ambalama Pavilion. Filled with grand old doors and columns amongst local antique ruins the walls of the pavilion have massive glass panels. There is a double bedroom with an open-air bathroom, vaulted ceilings, and a huge Hemingway-style writing desk. The bathroom is built under the open sky. The Pavilion is located closest to the main gate and the driveway. Although it is completely enclosed by the garden, we do not recommend staying here if you are a light sleeper. The Pavilion has A/C, Wifi and garden views. Please be aware that Ambalama Pavilion is located closest to the main gate and the driveway.

THE BEACH HUT 52 sq.m. (bedroom – 20 sq.m.) – 1 bedroom. Muhudu Bella: Can sleep up to 2 Guests

Muhudu-bella Era eliya villa Bedrooms

A guest bedroom is located to the side of the Ambalama and is called Muhudu Bella, which translates to “seashell.” The name choice was no accident, as Muhudu Bella is designed in the shape of a spiral. The Beach Hut Muhudu Bella is located away from the other spaces and is the closest to the ocean, just a couple of meters from the sandy Jungle Beach. Stepping out through the huge glass bedroom door and onto the secluded wooden terrace, you can literally feel the salty spray on your face. Almost nowhere else you will find a chalet whose floor plan uses the golden Fibonacci spiral. To get to the bathroom you walk down from the round bedroom via a swirling stairway.

THE WALAUWA – 2 bedrooms. 209 sq.m. (bedrooms – 25 sq.m. + 22 sq.m.). Maximum Occupancy – 5 adults (one Extra Bed possible).

The original house with a hundred years of history – Walauwa lies with ocean views and has two bedrooms, a sitting room and kitchen and a wide verandah. The reconstruction was very carefully completed in order to preserve the spirit of the building, its tranquility, coolness and silence. Almost everything here remains as it was, including the elements of colonial architecture, the arrangement of rooms and the enormous trees in front.

The Walauwa has a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with a plush sofa, TV, and every other comfort you could imagine. However, life in Villa Walauwa revolves around the veranda. Here you will find an enormous dining table that seats twelve people and beautifully upholstered furniture for every taste. The shade and coolness of the tree canopy during the day and the magnificent colours of the sunset in the evening will linger in your dreams long after you leave.

THE LOFT HOUSE – 63 sq.m. Maximum Occupancy: 5 guests

This space is called “Loft” as it is decorated with elements of a contemporary Asian loft. High ceilings, iron structures like typical loft architecture in the colonial buildings blended all together with middle-century furniture and art. There are two loft-style suites located here: Ocean Loft and Garden Loft. Both have a shared terrace, big private garden and outdoor
ocean view seating area.

  • Ocean Loft – 33 sq.m. and max occupancy – 3 Adults: it is an ideal place for digital nomads and all remote workers. It has two living spaces: one room and one attic with a king-size bed, and also a beautiful writing desk where you can comfortably work.
  • Garden Loft – 20 sq.m. and max occupancy – 2 Adults: It is the second room of the Loft House. A huge corner king-size bed, TV, and lovely bathroom create a cozy space for a rest. The house opens onto a lush tropical garden and offers a great ambiance to relax and enjoy.

REVIEWS

“Most hospitable and kind staff” – Date of stay: February 2023

“The only thing more beautiful than surroundings of this place is kindness of the staff. We stayed for 2 days and everybody made us feel so welcomed. Especially Lakmal, who took care of us from the beggining until the end. He attended us with utmost warmth and showed how hospitable Sri Lankans could be. For people like him we will be coming back to Sri Lanka. Food from breakfast to dinner was mouth watering. Impressed with the quality of products, especially fruits and sea food. Views are picturesque, rooms clean and every need catered with utmost perfection. After check-out we still had hours to wait for our transfer, and they still made us feel important. Our hearts are full. Definitely coming back to the Villas.”

“Luxury on luxury in a beautiful faultless spot” – Date of stay: December 2022

“Wow. We arrived at the villas at the end of November and stayed into the first week of December. We were very, very pleasantly surprised. We knew from the reviews and website it was going to be lovely but it exceeded our expectations. The villa is beautiful! The spot is peaceful and quiet, just perfect for relaxing. There’s a surf break right in front of the hotel and my partner surfed for a few hours most days and sat in-between waves next to turtles! You walk straight onto the sand and into the sea from the villa grounds.

The staff, where to start! They can’t do enough for you. They were incredible. So accommodating, so friendly, will go above and beyond. Lovely people too. Lakmal the waiter was a delight, brilliant at his job, so attentive and a real joy to speak to each day. He deserves a bonus he was excellent! There was a young waiter too whose name we didn’t manage to get unfortunately, he was also excellent and very attentive. Lanka is the masseuse and gave great massages, the best my partner’s ever had! They were great. The only downside was the daily encouragement to book another massage. I can see this hotel attracts some very wealthy people who can afford that, but we can’t. I’d have loved to have been able to but we just wanted 1 each during our stay. It felt like there was an expectation for us to have them daily with Lanka coming around to speak to you at the pool or when having breakfast to try and persuade us to have another. It was ok, but was the only thing I could comment on if anything as a very slight negative. We knew where she was if we wanted a massage, we didn’t feel we should be asked daily, sometimes twice daily to book more. We dreaded seeing her eventually as we knew she’d come and ask us to book more. There’s only so many times you can say no before it gets a bit tiresome.

The chef Shanuka came out to talk to us one evening after we’d asked a waiter to pass on our thanks to him as his food was great. It was lovely he took the time and come and see us, he was very friendly, chatting to us about how he cooks his curries-which were superb! We wasted the first 3 nights going out for dinner. Then one night we couldn’t be bothered and had dinner at the villa outside on our terrace by the pool (there’s no restaurant-we loved that). My god, what had we been missing! We then ate at the villa for every night of our holiday after that. The curries are amazing and can vary each day, there’s also enough choice on the menu for about a week. EAT AT THE VILLA! You won’t regret it.

Would LOVE to return one day. A real bit of paradise”

“Villas & Gardens: A Hidden Oasis in the South of Sri Lanka” – Date of stay: July 2020

“This tranquil accommodation in Weligama is one of the best places to stay in the south of Sri Lanka. In Sinhala, villa name means sunshine, an apt name for a beachfront accommodation nestled in the swaying palm groves in Southern Sri Lanka. The villa sits in a large, spacious garden clad with coconut palms, tropical flowers, and patches of pink bougainvillea. It opens up to the turquoise blue waters of the Indian Ocean. villa has direct access to Jungle Beach in Weligama, which is a great place for a swim in the ocean throughout the year. There are eight different accommodation options, from their Ambalama Pavilion nestled in the big garden to a gorgeous beach chalet a few steps away from the beach and the large spacious Villa Walauua with a fully equipped kitchen.

We stayed in the Ramaya Suite in Villa Bawana. It was a carefully curated space with chic interiors and touches of splendor written all over it. We loved the large four-poster canopy bed, the marble bathtub, and the walk-in shower in the large, spacious bathroom. What makes the villa unique is the small, thoughtful touches all around the property. Think of fully bloomed yellow orchid pants housed in terra-cotta pots dressing your room’s vintage-chic coffee table. Exquisite chandeliers hang from the raised ceilings. Original modern artwork and ancient Kandyan-era paintings fill the walls of each house.”

“Overall great stay!!” – Date of stay: May 2019

“The Beach is stunning, the rooms are elegant with high ceilings and beautiful furniture and fittings. We stayed in Samaya and had a gorgeous view of the pool looking out onto the ocean. The villa is close to the main area either a 15 min walk or 2 min tuk tuk. The only area for improvement would be the standard of food. For Sri Lanka the menu isn’t cheap and the quality is average with limited selection. If they could look at developing this area I honestly wouldn’t be able to fault the place! Overall great experience!”
