The Galle Fort villas’ history is part of its charm, built sometime in the mid-1800s, the Private Villa can be traced through title deeds showing ownership of families such as The Fox’s in 1903, The Jansz and the Blacker family in the 1920s, and the Marikar family in the 1930s. Villa’s current owner discovered the derelict property in 2002 whilst visiting friends in Galle Fort, The Galle fort house was home to a donkey and the Fort was a community with no shops, restaurants or boutique hotels. Fast forward 15 years and Galle Fort is now a hustling and bustling tourist destination with fantastic hotels, bars, and restaurants, and this beautiful villa sits right bang in the middle of the action. Having undergone a 3-year renovation in 2002 and more recently another renovation, the villa is considered Galle’s first and most loved luxury home, staffed by three long-serving Sri Lankans who love nothing more than to cook wonderful meals and show guests around Galle Fort and its surrounding beaches.

“A Wonderful Oasis in the centre of Galle Fort” – Date of stay: November 2019
“On arrival at the villa we were amazed by the style and space of the property. It is just wonderful. The facilities matched the style, the private central pool providing a relaxing centre to the house. The accommodation was very comfortable and our stay made perfect by Wanita and her colleague, both of whom really looked after us. The location was excellent for exploring Galle old town, everything being within walking distance. We look forward to returning one day, thanks.”
“Perfect location” – Date of stay: October 2019
“Great location in Galle Fort area and good price. Many restaurants in surrounding streets and coffee shops. Rooms were clean and bottles of water provided. The only issue was in our double room air conditioner leaked water down the wall into a bucket – noise from this prevented us from using AC during night and room was hot. If AC fixed then nothing to complain about. Didn’t have breakfast so can not comment on that.”
“Really gorgeous house and garden” – Date of stay: April 2018
“This is undoubtedly an experience you don’t get every day. A whole beautiful house to yourself with three charming staff and a stunning garden and pool. It is centrally located in Galle Fort, an ancient and atmospheric area with many tourist shops and restaurants. For us, the system with buying the food wasn’t ideal, although the cooking was great – we weren’t able to go to the market with the chef as the New Year was imminent and he was in a hurry. Consequently, we ended up with far too much food, which wasn’t very cost-effective. TV and music systems weren’t working, but that wasn’t really a problem for us. We really enjoyed staying in this beautifully restored and decorated property, especially being able to wander out in the early morning and enjoy the scenery and historic houses (we even saw a monkey in an adjoining garden, not to mention the peacocks in ours!).”
